Artist Bio

I look at scenes and everyday items and my brain immediately starts considering how to paint them.  I admit it's an unusual way to navigate the world.  I think about light and shadow a lot because it changes depending on the light source and the strength of it.  I also think about interesting color combinations as well as breaking things down into shapes.

As a self-taught painter I am unencumbered by "rules".  I've always been creative and have a degree in commercial art and began my career in advertising although an untapped curiosity about the fine arts was always lurking.  While raising our two kids I painted faux finishes and murals in people's homes.  Painting canvases came later in life when I started taking commissions for pet portraits.  During the lockdown I felt inspired to become more adventurous in my subject matter and have never looked back.  Now I see inspiration everywhere I look!

I live with my husband and boxer on the South Carolina coast near Charleston with our daughter and several grandchildren nearby.  I am surrounded by coastline, marshes and massive, old Live Oaks.  It is a truly beautiful and inspiring place rich in culture, color and history and I love the painting challenges it brings.  My greatest joy and purpose is pairing people with art.
